Critic Meets Compassion: Facilitating Integration Through Experiential Methods

During this workshop retreat, individuals will:

  • Participate in exercises which foster spontaneity, trust, emotional expression and the development of an observing self.
  • Learn tools to separate from their inner critic & integrate a compassionate voice of healing.
  • Develop creative coping skills through the use of masks and role playing.

Benefits of Mask & Drama Therapy:

  • Both protective and liberating—having something to hide behind is a vehicle, rather than an obstacle, to self-exposure.
  • Identifies and addresses intrapersonal power struggle (Critical Self vs. Compassionate Self)
  • No longer confined to the internal mind, the critical voice is now embodied, verbalized and witnessed.
  • Creates the space to talk to the critical voice, set a boundary and verbalize new choices for physical and emotional health.
  • For many it is in the context of drama that they can have the experience of embodying an untapped part of themselves

Facilitated by Carol Dietrich, RN, LMFT, RDT:  Carol is a Licensed Psychotherapist and Registered Drama Therapist, who created an efficacious mask making Drama Therapy modality that has helped heal many individuals in their healing process.

The Mask I Wear...

Moving from Inner Critic to Self-Compassion

mask work

During the retreat, you will create your own masks which reflect your inner conflict. By then wearing your mask and acting out loud as your Inner Voice, you will start to understand how this voice became part of you.  By embodying and verbalizing this voice through an interview process, it will be exposed and witnessed by the retreat facilitator and others as part of your healing journey.

Bearing witness builds your trust.  Within the safety of this trust, change, healing and growth can happen.

You will soon realize that you are more than the voice of this mask and through the process, rediscover a more authentic perspective that has been lost or hidden along the way.

This is when you will create a mask of your Compassionate Self.

Through this externalizing process a space is created in which a different dialogue can occur, and this facilitates integration and the beginning of a different relationship within yourself.

You are now on the path to change and healing,
